Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness

Sep 13, 2016

September was Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Month and we partnered with the Sickle Cell Anemia Program of Erie.

We were pleased to sponsor the center by purchasing awareness wrist bands and distributing them at all of our branches. Additionally, credit union leaders were on hand for a special press conference to kick off the month. The press conference included speeches from leading medical professionals in the field, along with a heartfelt testimony to the value of Erie's local program from a sufferer of Sickle Cell and her mother.

Note: National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. First officially recognized by the federal government in 1983, National Sickle Cell Awareness Month calls attention to sickle cell disease (SCD), a genetic disease that researchers estimate affects between 90,000 and 100,000 Americans.
